Create a read-only service principal
In your Databricks account console, create a service principal and generate a client ID and secret. This principal only needs SELECT access to Unity Catalog system tables.

What permissions does the service principal need?
SELECT on the Unity Catalog system schema (system.billing, system.compute, system.lakeflow, system.query). LakeSentry never requests MODIFY, CREATE, or DELETE permissions.
Does my data leave my Databricks account?
Yes — with the SaaS deployment, system table snapshots are ingested and stored in LakeSentry’s hosted infrastructure. If your compliance requirements prevent this, consider the Databricks App or Private Cloud options instead.
How many workspaces can I connect?
All plans — including Free — support unlimited workspaces across any number of Databricks accounts. The Free plan is limited to 1 user and 3 months of history, not workspaces.
