Sample data. Your insights will reflect your environment.

You can see waste. Acting on it is the hard part.

A query is hitting a 256-GB cluster that runs all day, and the team that owns it is not on call. The fix is obvious: drop a node, change auto-termination, move the workload. The consequences of doing it wrong are also obvious. So the cluster keeps running.

Most platform teams have plenty of visibility. What they don’t have is a safe path from insight to action that survives the next on-call rotation.

  • Optimization scripts rot the moment whoever wrote them changes teams.
  • Custom watchers catch the anomaly you wrote them for, and miss everything else.
  • Audit trails for cost actions live in Confluence pages no one reads.
  • Business demands lower DBU spend without service degradation. No margin for error.

Visibility first — execution where it is safe.

What LakeSentry surfaces today for platform engineers, and where the action surface stops.

Cross-workspace visibility

Normalized cost and usage across every workspace. Cluster, job, and SQL warehouse health in one place, ranked by impact. No SQL stitching across regions or metastores.

Insights with evidence

Each recommendation ships with the data it ran on — z-scores, baselines, the deviation from history. Read the evidence, decide whether it applies. No black-box scoring.

Admin-gated execution

Selected recommendation types execute through LakeSentry under admin-only RBAC, with approval recorded in the audit log. Recommendations outside that set ship as guided plans you apply in Databricks yourself.

How LakeSentry stays safe.

The defaults that make platform engineering teams comfortable handing the keys to a vendor.

  • Read-only service principal by default. Write access only if you opt in to executable actions.
  • Approve and reject are admin-only RBAC. Every approval, every rejection, every execution result is captured in the audit log.
  • Plans are generated with the current value of what they would change recorded inline. You can see the diff before approving.
  • Outbound webhooks today cover scheduled reports (daily, weekly, monthly), signed with HMAC-SHA256. Per-action webhooks are on the roadmap, not shipped.
  • No unattended automation. Every executable plan still passes through an approver.

Questions platform engineers ask.

What permissions does LakeSentry need?
Read-only by default. A service principal with system-table access is enough for visibility. Write permissions are optional and only needed for executable actions. Unity Catalog is required.
How does action execution work?
For selected recommendation types, LakeSentry executes the plan against the Databricks API after admin approval. For others, LakeSentry ships a guided plan you apply in Databricks yourself. The executable set is part of the product surface and grows as the recommendation engine matures.
Can I revert an executed action?
Plans are generated with the current value of what they would change recorded inline — the prior auto-termination value, the previous worker count, whether the cluster was running. Reverting means applying the inverse manually against that recorded value. A fully one-click rollback is not shipped today.
Do you integrate with our incident workflow?
Outbound webhooks today cover scheduled reports (daily digest, weekly, monthly), signed with HMAC-SHA256. Wire them into Slack, PagerDuty, or your own incident tooling. Per-action and per-insight webhooks are on the roadmap, not yet shipped.
Can I write custom rules?
The recommendation engine is built-in. Custom attribution rules, which decide how cost rolls up to teams, are fully yours to define in the Mappings tab and the rule editor.

Read-only first. Write access when your team is ready.
